Mozart: Le nozze di Figaro
23 October 2024, 3.30pm – Teatro Massimo Comunale, Syracuse
Part of Martin Randall Travel’s ‘Opera in Sicily’ Festival, 18-24 October 2024
The Marriage of Figaro is widely considered to be the greatest opera ever written – an astonishing fusion of music and drama, of comedy and profundity – and over the 238 years since its first performance it has never lost its ability to captivate and exhilarate audiences.
The Mozartists’ concert staging will place Mozart’s scintillating score at the heart of the story-telling, with their winning combination of world-class young singers and vibrant period instruments bringing fresh insights and dramatic flair to this ultimate miracle of composition.
The Mozartists’ performance marks the culmination of MRT’s opera festival which will also feature superb musicians from Germany, Ireland and Italy. All the concerts take place in beautiful historic theatres tucked away in some of the loveliest towns in Sicily, and the other performances included within the tour are Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea, a gala concert by members of the National Opera Studio compèred by Sir Thomas Allen, Handel’s The Triumph of Time and Truth and Vivaldi’s L’Olimpiade.

“Typical generosity from Page and company; his programming always goes beyond the call of duty in bringing the obscure to light and offering true revelation.”
