David Soar was born in Nottinghamshire and studied at the Royal Academy of Music and the National Opera Studio. He made his début with The Mozartists (then Classical Opera) singing the role of Leporello in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at Cadogan Hall in 2016. Other operatic roles include Escamillo (Carmen), Mr Flint (Billy Budd) and Collatinus (The Rape of Lucretia) at Glyndebourne, Le Duc (Roméo et Juliette) for the Salzburg Festival, Quinault (Adriana Lecouvreur) at Covent Garden, Nilakantha (Lakmé) for Opera Holland Park, Basilio (The Barber of Seville), Roy Disney (The Perfect American), and Bernardino (Benvenuto Cellini) for English National Opera, Seneca (L’incoronazione di Poppea) for the Academy of Ancient Music, Colline (La bohème) and Masetto (Don Giovanni) for the Metropolitan Opera, and Leporello (Don Giovanni), Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Escamillo and Sparafucile (Rigoletto) for Welsh National Opera.
